Overview

We now begin Lesson 2: Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) Technology. Specific learning objectives for this lesson include being able to:

With the holiday and the PSAT day in the middle, we will have two weeks and a half weeks to complete this lesson.

How to Study

I have put a Preparing for a CIW Exam poster on two opposite walls in on our classroom. Please take a glance at it. We will continue to refer to the strategies it contains.

Evaluation

The three factors, curriculum completion, rebranding project, and end of lesson quiz will be weighted 25%, 25%, and 50% respectively for dual-enrolled students and 40%, 40%, 20% for high school credit students.

Monday, October 16

As I told you in class last Thursday, I will not be here today. You should continue completing all activities in Lesson 2: Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), so that you are ready for the quiz on Friday and the evaluation of your curriculum work the following weekend.

Topic: To @import or <link ...>?

Our curriculum uses a link to connect to external style sheets, but there is another option: the @import rule, which can be placed as the first line of an internal style sheet.

I'll have a little more to say about this when I see you on Wednesday.

Friday, October 6

We will begin class today by evaluating what we did in lesson 1 and discussing how we can improve the learning process during lesson 2 with each of the three evaluation factors.

Quiz

I will return the quizzes today. The grade distribution was 12:3, 11:5, 10:4, 9:5, 8:4, 6:3, 4:1, and 3:1. We will review the 12 questions on this quiz and talk briefly about strategies for preparing for future quizzes.

Website Project

To earn an A at the end of lesson 2 on your project, it must have the following items:

  1. a footer with validation links (and the supporting JavaScript in the header) which you can borrow directly from The Color Orange.
  2. the same structure as provided in Lab 2-1: Formatting text with CSS. This project is called a rebranding precisely because we will be taking the example code from the uCorp sample website provided by the labs and rebranding it to our own chosen theme.
