CSC 221 Weekly Assignments: Week 21

CSC 215

Overview

This is the last week of quarter 2, and the last week we will spend on PCEP preparation.

Thursday, January 25th

Those of you who have yet to pass the PCEP have to decide whether to try it today or not.

Note: After giving the matter serious consideration, I have decided to qualify what I said in class when asked if you could take the PCEP on your on at home and have it count. My answer is still yes, but only if you can also score 18 or above on one of my practice tests. We will talk more in class about how this will be done.

Here are the factors you should consider:

  1. The potential benefit of passing is high, since it means the grades on the four practice tests you took previously would all be set to A.
  2. You have only one APS provided voucher provided you. If you use it and don't pass (or you are one of the few people I pushed into taking the test with a promised second voucher), you will have to purchase a second voucher on your own (at $59.00) if you want to take it again.
  3. While it will be too late for a PCEP taken after today to count for quarter 2, it will count for your college grade. In the grand scheme of things, the college grade matters more than your quarter 2 grade does.

Tuesday, January 23rd

Classwork / Homework

I will have another PCEP practice test available today. I do not recommend taking the actual certification exam until you can score above 20 on one of these practice exams. I will continue to produce them next semester, but no more class time will be dedicated to PCEP prep. From here on out, if you want to take a practice test, you will need to do so outside class hours (before school - 7:30 to 8 am, during archer's period, or after school Wednesday or Thursday by appointment).

Homework for those who have yet to pass PCEP is, of course, study, study, study!
