AP Computer Science Principles

Overview

I know I said this last week, but this time I mean it, this week we will finish with Big Idea 2: Data and begin Big Idea 4: Computer Systems and Networks.

Thursday, February 16th

Classwork

After discussing the homework assignment, we will see if any groups are ready to present their microcontroller projects. The rest of the time will be spent working on the projects.

Homework

Read Chapter 2: Network Architecture, in Introduction to Networking, and add notes from this chapter to your Intro2networkingNotes.md document in your git repo.

This assignment is due Monday, February 20, at 8 am, so I can grade it before we come to class on Tuesday. I will be looking for notes on both chapters when I evaluate you for this assignment.

Be ready for a short quiz on the first two chapters when you arrive in class Tuesday.

Tuesday, February 14th

Classwork

We will start class today with the second version of the quiz on Big Idea 2: Data. Then I will briefly introduce you to the DIKW pyramid as it relates to our study of information theory.

You will have the rest of class to work on your microcontroller projects using the Circuit Playground Express.

Homework

Download a copy of Introduction to Networking by Charles Severance (a.k.a. Dr. Chuck). Read chapter 1, Introduction, and come to class on Thursday ready to discuss the chapter.

Create a markdown file named Intro2networkingNotes.md in your git repository. Take notes from the chapter in this file.

Next week you will have a quiz based on the vocabulary and questions at the end of the chapter.
