AP Computer Science Principles

Overview

Today's presenter, Michelle Koeth, comes to us today to share insights on machine learning shaped by decades of experience and education in computer technology. As a teenager, she challenged stereotypes about computer enthusiasts as the head of her high school's Advanced Technology Club, and a Rotary Youth Leadership award winner.

In college, she worked as a network administrator, application developer, and software process improvement administrator. In her first professional role after earning her Bachelor's of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rutgers University, she was a full stack developer for a multi-national health insurance corporation where she earned certification as a Java programmer and recipient of the People's Choice award for customer service excellence.

Navigating the uncertainty of the tech outsourcing based layoff trend of the early 2000s, Michelle went back to school - this time, law school, to learn more about intellectual property in law school and understand the policies that drive the cost of technology in America. She practiced law for three years at a mid-sized D.C. patent law firm before moving to California to be a fellow for Code for America and work with academics and tech advocacy leaders in the open government and transparency space. As a fellow, she contributed as a lead developer for numerous open source projects, winning prizes at various hackathons.

In 2012, she joined the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner, examining in the digital signal processing field where artificial intelligence has taken hold swiftly and shows no signs of slowing down. She envisions an ideal future world, shaped by thoughtful policies that will allow all people to share in the bounty of tech based automation.
