CSC 222 Weekly Assignments: Week 5

CSC 222

Overview

This week we have our first process evaluation using our git repos.

Friday, October 2nd

Classwork

After our quiz based on the exercises from Chapter 5, we will have our first (of many) discussions of strings and their representation in C++.

Homework

Complete Chapter 6 Exercise Set 1: CPE Practice using the following process:

  1. Work the exercise by hand and write down your expected result.
  2. Compile and run the program, committing it to your git repo.
  3. Compare the output with what you wrote down to check your understanding.

Wednesday, September 30th

Classwork

You'll get your quizzes back from last class. The grade distribution was: A: 12, B: 5, C: 5, D: 3, E: 1. Remind me to ask Kidus and Madi to show you how to do a function trace on your quizzes. Several of you could have earned an additional letter grade if you did what they did.

Remind me also to talk briefly about the call to f(int, int, int) in the first question, and how --c results in one less loop iteration than c-- would have.

We'll use class time today to finish working the exercises from Chapter 5 Extention: Introducing doctest. We will have another short quiz on on Chapter 5 at the beginning of class on Friday.

Evaluation

Two grades will be added on Friday: a quiz grade and a programming grade evaluated using this rubric.

Homework

Read Chapter 6: Strings, and be prepared to discuss the chapter and ask questions about it in class on Friday.

Monday, September 28th

Classwork

We will begin class with the promised quiz based on the exercises in Chapter 5 Exercise Set 1: CPE Practice.

The rest of class time will be used work on exercises from Chapter 5 Extention: Introducing doctest. This will be the first activity for which you will be evaluated on your process through commits to your git repos.

I modeled that for you last week, but I can work with those who still need more help with it during class today.

Homework

Continue working on exercises from Chapter 5 Extention: Introducing doctest. Be sure to make regular commits to your git repos as we discussed in class.
