CSC 221 Weekly Assignments: Week 4

CSC 221

Overview

This week we will move on to Python's statements for control flow, including branching, looping, and exception handling. There are a lot of exercises in this chapter, so we'll take our time to go through them thoughtfully.

Friday, September 25th

Classwork / Homework

We will begin class by discussing Chapter 4: Conditionals, loops and exceptions. You will have hopefully completed your homework and come to class prepared for the discussion.

After the discussion, you will have both classwork and homework time to complete as many of the exercises in Chapter 4 Exercise Set 0: Chapter Review and Chapter 4 Exercise Set 1: PCEP Practice as time allows.

You should come to class on Tuesday ready to work on any challenges you faced together with your classmates.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated on this chapter with a test we will have on Thursday, October 1st based on all the exercises.

NOTE: Beginning with Chapter 5, you will be evaluated on your programming activity using your git repos, so if you are still catching up with the Unix CLI, vim, and git, now is the time to finish doing that!

Wednesday, September 23rd

Grades on the Chapter 3 quiz could have been better. Before we move on to today's scheduled Chapter 4 discussion, we'll start with a little review, using Code Treadmill. I'll also introduce Python Tutor which might help us understand some of the tricky questions about copying lists.

By next week you will be expected to be able to commit work to your git repos, so we will spend time in class focusing on that process for those who need help with it.

Homework

Read Chapter 4: Conditionals, loops and exceptions, as we discussed in class, trying out the examples and reflecting on your understanding of the material presented.

Come to class Friday ready to discuss the chapter.
